The author was born in Manhattan with two artists for parents. The fiction was adapted into a play by the author that was titled “Vampire Dreams’. McKee Charnas also wrote The Vampire Tapestry. and the series features aspects of separatist societies, a feminist dystopia, war, and reintegration. It is considered to be one of her largest career achievements.

The final novel in this series is called The Conqueror’s Chila and came out in 1999. She also wrote a four volume novel series called The Holdfast Chronicles that was written over thirty years. She has also had her short works collected in a 2004 installment titled Stagestruck Vampires and Other Phantasms. She has won awards several times for her fiction writing with scores such as the Nebula Award, the Hugo Award. She is known for being a writer of short stories as well as a novelist, writing in the science fiction and fantasy genres most often. She resides in New Mexico in the United States with her husband. Suzy McKee Charnas is an American published author that also goes by the pen name Rebecca Brand.
